INFORMATION BELOW THIS POINT REFERS TO THE MAY 6, 2012, MARATHON
Thank you for entering Potomac River Run Marathon!
A few new items:

1. We have two free entries to St. Michaels Running Festival, Saturday, May 19. See http://www.stmichaelsrunningfestival.com/

First two Potomac River Runners who write me back get 'em. I will fill out the forms here and mail them to the race director.

2. I'm still missing a few early-finishing half marathoners who didn't get their medals. If you didn't get you medal on race-day, please write me back.

3. If you look at our home page www.safetyandhealthfoundation.org or our Facebook page, you see a tribute to Dean Shulman, one of the five founding members of SHF's board of directors. Dean died after a fall on May 8. We deeply miss him. We plan another marathon on November 18, and we dedicate that effort to his memory.

4. We printed all the finisher certificates today, and we plan to mail them, along with our results book, next week, around Thursday or Friday. We can use some help at midweek stuffing the envelopes, here in Arlington at our world headquarters, most likely on Wednesday night around 8 PM. Please let me know if you can join us for an hour of joyful labor.

5. We have a leftover XS (extra-small) t-shirts. Some participants who ordered them must have taken S (small) instead. Here are the last names of those who ordered XS:

  • Clor
  • Conant
  • Eckman
  • Koch
  • Loving
  • Mills
  • Perkins
  • Shopkorn
  • Trenholm

Please let me know if you ordered XS but did not receive one, and we will include them in our mailing next week.

    6. We collected leftover clothing and water bottles during post-race clean-up. Alas, we did not find the missing Oakley sunglasses. If you left behind an item, please identify it, and we will mail it to you.

    7. You can comment on the race via YourRun.com

Best wishes for a speedy recovery and a quick return to racing!

Jay Jacob Wind, director, Safety And Health Foundation

  • The results are official and final at www.safetyandhealthfoundation.org/20120506.html, including a column identifying 2013 Boston Marathon qualifiers, subdivided into four sections, 6:30 AM full, 7:30 AM full, 6:30 AM half, 7:30 AM half.

If you have any further corrections, please let us know ASAP -- Please write to us.

Soon, we shall send the results to BAA, print the results booklet and finisher certificates, and mail them to you, along with any awards and medals not given out on race day.

A few early half marathon finishers in the 6:30 AM start did not receive medals. If you did not receive a medal, please let us know, and we'll include your medal in your envelope with your results and finisher certificate.

Our Facebook page is getting lots of traffic. We'd love to have you LIKE us and comment on your experience. Thanks for the lovely photos!

    Brightroom photos are now up'n'running!

If you took photos of the Solar Emergency Rescue Vehicle Electric -- the solar-powered-electric-bike-mounted trail ambulance, please send them to us for our web page www.safetyandhealthfoundation.org/serve. Safety And Health Foundation intends to make the vehicle available to all races in the future.

We see that MarathonGuide.com has our unofficial pre-correction results up'n'running. We sent the official results to them on Tuesday night.

We thank our 50 volunteers from many organizations: AIMS India Foundation, BuyaBrickFoundation, Capital Area Runners, DC Capital Striders, High Cloud Foundation, Potomac Valley Track Club, and The Home Depot.

Cheryl Young shot about 1700 photos in the area of Capital Area Runners' water stop at Lock 5. She got just about everyone in the race at least once, and she got a lot of great stuff.

    View Cheryl's photos

We're thinking of conducting another small marathon in autumn. We will write you about that soon. In the meantime, please consider Alexandria Running Festival half marathon on May 27. See www.mc-coop.org/arf

    Thank you for participating!
    Jay Jacob Wind, director, SHF

  • We thank comedian Justin Schegel for leading our laughing warm-up!
  • Justin is so funny that he's sure none of his jokes will go over your head, even if he is 6'5".
  • Justin has run some races, but Athlinks never gets his age right.
  • Justin performed on Saturday, May 5, at Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse and got up early the next morning to celebrate World Laughter Day with us.

    • Drop-off instructions
    • Parking is limited at Carderock Recreation Area.
    • If you can get someone to drop you off, the best place is at the south end of the bridge over Clara Barton Parkway (MAP), where cars can either go straight into to Carderock or turn left to go east toward Washington DC.
    • Thus we can avoid a traffic jam on the park road at Carderock.
    • From there, it's a short walk through the tunnel and either straight ahead to the packet pick-up area (MAP) or to the left up the gravel road to the start line (MAP).
    • Civil Twilight at 5:35 AM | Sunrise at 6:04 AM
    • Race-day packet pick-up, bag check, and the post-race picnic are at the picnic pavilion next to the farthest left parking lot ("#4") at Carderock. Bathrooms are in the parking lot straight ahead ("#3") and also the westmost parking lot ("#1").
