Thanks to everyone who helped assemble goodie bags on Thursday night, and thanks to Gib Leonard of Buy A Brick Foundation for hauling more than a ton of water out to the aid stations on Friday. We continue our aid station set-up today so we'll be ready to make some history on Sunday. Pre-race packet pickup is today, Saturday, May 6, from 3:00 PM to 5:45 PM at Pacers Running Store, 3100 Clarendon Boulevard, Arlington VA, across the street from Trader Joe's and from Clarendon Metro Station. We look forward to meeting you! Pre-race dinner is tonight, Saturday, May 6, starting at 6:30 PM at Cosi Restaurant, 1801 North Lynn Street, Arlington VA. Watch the Kentucky Derby, then listen to Gib Leonard's twice-yearly progress report on Buy A Brick's Leonah Clinic in Zimbabwe and their worldwide effort to Stomp Out Malaria. Our team will be on-site at Fletcher's Cove, 4940 Canal Road NW, Washington DC, on Sunday morning, May 7, for race-day packet pick-up from 7:00 AM to 8:45 AM, with starts at 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM. We thank Diane Cohen (?arlingtonlaughteryoga@yahoo,com?) for leading our Laughter Yoga sessions at 7:30 AM and 8:30 AM in honor of World Laughter Day. We thank our announcer "Showtime Mike" Mebreahtu (http://mmebra2.wixsite.com/showtimemike), our National Anthem trumpeter Michael Creadon, and our official photographer Charlie Milsop of ?www.chessiephoto.com ?We thank our volunteers from New York College of Podiatric Medicine at the start / finish, from Ethio-American Athletic Association at Lock 5, from Buy A Brick Foundation at Lock 7, and from DC Capital Striders at Lock 10. All the aid stations have water, Gatorade, Vaseline, Advil, and all are prepared for emergencies with space blankets, first-aid kits, and vehicles in case you can't finish. Remember that the course is out'n'back on C&O Canal Towpath, all gravel, no turns, no street crossings, no hills except for two small rises at Lock 5 and just past Lock 10. The turnaround is about 766 yards west of the I-495 overpass. We will have a course marshall at the turnaround to record bib numbers. The half marathon is out'n'back once. The ful marathon is out'n'back twice. The midpoint of the marathon, a few steps west of the bridge at Fletcher's Cove where we start and finish. We will have a tent in the center of C&O Canal Towpath with water. Gatorade, Honest Sport drink, Simone Super Energy drink, and Carb Boom!. You'll run thru the tent, around the cone, and back outbound for your second tour of the course. When you finish your event, bear right and enter the recovery area, with space blankets, refreshments, and real food down the stairs at the picnic tables. If you finiosh between 11:00 AM and 12:00 noon, you'll enjoy live music by Anna Mwalagho (www.AnnaMwalagho.com) and her band, singing and playing Afloetry. (If you like what you hear, you can buy her CD on-site.) Finish you will, so you can earn your medallion and an award if you're top 3 overall or top 3 in your age group. At the finish, we'll have Honest Sport drink, Simone Super Energy drink, Carb Boom! energy gels, Dunkin Donuts bagels, coffee, and donuts, Trader Joe's bananas and clementines, Mario's Pizza House pizza (cheese and vegan with pineapple, green pepper, and mushroom, my favorite), and King Zachary's Royal Barbeque. Y'all, please forgive me if I'm a little bit sleepy today and tomorrow -- I just watched Eliud Kipchoge run a marathon in 2:00:25, the fastest any human has covered the 26.21875-mile distance. If you get a chance to watch the video, you'll be inspired to run faster and harder than ever. See you in 12 hours! Thank you, Jay Jacob Wind, director Safety And Health Foundation
