Thank you for entering the 10.5th annual Potomac River Run Marathon on Sunday, November 17, 2013, at 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM, at Carderock Recreation Area on the C&O Canal Towpath, in memory of Dean Shulman (1961-2012).

We shall send messages every few days this week to keep you informed about our race.

As we did at our 10th annual Potomac River Run Marathon on May 5, 2013, after the Boston Marathon bombings, we shall have a large board at our pre-race packet pick-ups and on race day for you to write words of comfort and support, which we shall mail along with our donation.

On Thursday, November 14, 5-8 PM, we assemble goodie bags at Road Runner Sports, 1120 West Broad Street, Falls Church VA 22046. Please join us to stuff a 350 goodie bags and get your bib number early. Packet pick-up opens at 6 PM. Show your bib number at the counter for a 10% store discount at Road Runner Sports.

Packet pick-up re-opens on Saturday, November 16, 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, at Georgetown Running Company, 3401 M Street NW, Washington DC 20007 (202-337-8628). Show your bib number at the counter for a 15% store discount at Georgetown Running Company.

At 6:30 PM on Saturday, November 16, at at Cosi Restaurant, 1801 North Lynn Street, Arlington VA, please join us for pre-race dinner and the first DC-area SCHOOL-BUILDING SUMMIT for all charity leaders building schools and educating youth internationally -- to start a conversation that may change the world.

To drive to Carderock, take Exit 41, the first exit north of the Potomac River off the I-495 Capital Beltway. Stay right and follow the sign to Carderock onto Clara Barton Parkway. Stay right, and exit right at the sign for Carderock. Stay left, cross the bridge over Clara Barton Parkway, turn right, and proceed through the tunnel under the C&O Canal Towpath. Continue on the park road to the rightmost parking area. Once that area is filled, we direct you to the next-to-rightmost area, then to the other two parking areas.

To bike or run to Carderock, take C&O Canal Towpath northwest under I-495 Beltway. Carderock is about 1.5 miles west of I-495 Beltway. Turn left at the gravel road and ride or run to the rightmost parking area.

On race day, Sunday, November 17, packet pick-up opens at 7:15 AM at Carderock.

We offer "Dawn Patrol" taxi rides from Key Bridge Marriott, 1401 Lee Highway, Arlington VA 22209, for $10 (regularly $20), departing at 7:00 AM. The ride is about 20 minutes. The taxi ride is one-way.

After you finish and want a ride back, raise your hand at the post-race picnic near the finish line, and we'll match you with some driving back to DC and Key Bridge. (If you drive to Carderock and can take passengers back, please also let us know.

If you need more than 5 hours to finish, please join our Early Bird Start at 8:00 AM. You get the same medal, post-race refreshments, and finish certification, including a mailed certificate of your time suitable for framing and Framingham ... and Boston. You also get your medal and post-race picnic sooner. We want as many runners / walkers as possible to join the Early Bird start.

From 8:30 AM to 8:45 AM, we host a warmup at the Carderock picnic shelter. At 8:45 AM, we move to the Towpath for the National Anthem. We start the competitive race at 9:00 AM.
