5K run starts at 10:00 AM (with awards at 11:00 AM)
5K walk starts at 10:05 AM (non-competitive)

  • Pre-race packet pick-up on Friday, November 30, 3:00 PM to 5:45 PM, at Pacers Running Store, 3100 Clarendon Boulevard, Arlington VA 22201
  • Race-day guest speaker at 9:45 AM to welcome you and tell you about events surrounding the race
  • National anthem at 9:55 AM, followed by the lighting of 11 memorial candles
  • The competitive 5K starts at 10:00 AM from the bridge at Fletcher's Cove to the turnaround point 1.55 miles west and back
  • The 5K is professionally-timed with awards for the top 3 male and female and the top 3 in age groups 19 & under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80-89, and 90 & over
  • Awards are donated by sponsors

  • If you are in the 5K run, please wear your bib number visibly on the front of your shirt, not obscured in any way
  • We MUST be able to see your bib number from far away to score you in the 5K
  • Please do NOT remove the name tag at the bottom of your bib number
  • We retrieve your name tag immediately after you finish the race to establish the order of finish
  • We time the race both the old-fashioned way, by key-entering your bib number when you finish, and also with Bolt RFID electronic timing system
  • Your chip is stapled in a plastic envelope to the back of your bib number
  • Please do not remove your chip from the plastic bag, and please do not remove it from your bib number
  • We retrieve your chip in its plastic envelope for re-use at future races
  • We announce award winners as they finish and present awards at 11:00 AM
  • You must be present to accept your award
  • We publish complete results later in the day at www.safetyandhealthfoundation.org/20181202.html

  • We do not issue bib numbers & chips or keep results for the 5K walk, but you do get the t-shirt

  • A note on the weather:
  • In case of rain, we have a big tent to cover the registration area, but running on C&O Canal Towpath, you WILL get wet
  • Please dress accordingly

  • Directions from Georgetown and points east:
        •• Take M Street westbound past Key Bridge
        •• At Foxhall Road, M Street becomes Canal Road. Continue west for 2 miles.
        •• Watch for Reservoir Road on right and entrance to Fletcher's Cove on left.
        •• CAREFULLY turn left - watch for oncoming traffic

  • Directions from Maryland and points west:
        •• Take Clara Barton Parkway eastbound to Chain Bridge where Canal Road begins
        •• Cross Arizona Avenue
        •• Watch for the entrance to Fletcher's Cove on the right
        •• Turn right VERY CAREFULLY -- the right turn there is very sharp
        •• Alternatively, turn LEFT at Reservoir Road and park at River School on the left or on W Street, Bending Lane, Hutchins Place, or Macarthur Boulevard, then walk downhill to Fletcher's Cove

  • Continue down the driveway to free parking
        •• We have 85 parking spots on the left above Fletcher's Cove
        •• When those spaces are full, drive through the tunnel on the right to 200 free parking spaces below Fletcher's Cove

  • Completely flat, with a scenic bridge about one mile from the start / finish

    By entering this event, I agree, warrant and covenant as follows: I know that running is a potentially hazardous activity. I should not enter or run in this event unless I am medically able and properly trained. I agree to abide by any decision of a race official relative to my ability to safely complete the run. I assume all risks associated with running in this race including, but not limited to, falls, contact with other participants, the effects of weather, including high heat and/or humidity, the conditions of the road and traffic on the course, all such risks being known and appreciated by me.   Having read this waiver and knowing these facts, and in consideration of your acceptance of my application, I, for myself and anyone entitled to act on my behalf, waive and release Mercy Center Foundation U.S.A.
